Me Update

So I know I've been very absent from LJ so far this year. Basically after I went home for the holiday's I found that I had to work all the time to make up for that one week of work I missed. I've also come to realize that although I like being a waitress, it's too unrealizable a job. At least where I've been working there's just too much luck involved in how much money you make on any given night.

So I'm starting a new job next week. I'll be working as a canvasser for the California League of Conservation Voters. Basically I'll be one of those annoying people who knocks on your door in the evening. The short version is the group I'm working for is an environmental group that works to get pro environment people elected and hold them responsible for helping the environment. It's actually I good job, and it's a cause I really believe in. Plus for the first time ever I have a job that I feel like could really go somewhere. I love politics and this will be a great opportunity to learn more about how a grassroots movement works.

Hopefully this will also get me writing more since I won't be spending all my time worrying about money, which I must say really kills my muse.

I've also been having a lot of fun with my martial arts class I started back in Novemeber. I finally tested for my Orange Belt two weeks ago, and I've now broken a board with my fist, which was really cool.

Anyway, that's what's been going on with me. Hopefully I'll start being more involved with my LJ again.

I hope you like the job. It is a good cause, but I couldn't go door to door.

And wow. It only takes 4 months to learn to break a board?

Yeah, the door to door thing is hard for a lot of people. I wouldn't say it's exactly easy for me, but I can do it and I think I can do it well.

As for breaking the board, I probably should have done it a month sooner, but because of the holidays and missing a couple classes due to being sick I had to wait until the end of February. It's actually mostly a mental thing. In fact before my turn came, they had all the little kids who were testing break there boards. Sure they used a thiner board, but after seeing a six year old do it, I would have felt bad if I couldn't.

Thanks. I think the job will work out well. My only real concern is that I'm the sort of person who gets bored after four or five months on a job and then looks for a new one. We'll see how long this one lasts.

Hi-ya!
