Here's a meme I got from [livejournal.com profile] lawyergirl15 who gave me the letter 'M'

Here's how it works:

Comment on this entry that you'd like to play, and I will give you a letter. Write ten words beginning with that letter in your journal, including an explanation what the word means to you and why, and then pass out letters to those who want to play along.

1. Mountains Cause I'm a Colorado girl born and bread, and the mountains aren't just scenery, they're part of the character of my home.

2. Mustang My grandmother had a 67' Mustang when I was a kid. I loved that car, and I hate the new models. I really loved it when my parents car broke down and my mom borrowed that car to drive me to school.

3. Maple The street my elementary school was on, but also we had lots of Maple leaves back home, and there the most beautiful thing in the fall when the leaves change color. Oh, and just a few blocks west of my school on Maple street were the most beautiful Victorian houses. If I'm ever rich, I'm buying one.

4. Mandolin This is the word that keeps popping up in my mind. I guess because I spent so much time around Shakespearean stuff as a kid, since Shakespeare is my parents passion. Plus, who can forget the singing rooster with the mandolin from the Disney Robin Hood.

5. Mermaid The Little Mermaid was always my very favorite fairy tale as a kid, but not the Disney version. I always thought of all the fairy tail princesses she was the only one who was really in love, because she was willing to die rather than kill her prince. And of course after 300 years of brining hot breezes to cold places and cool breezes to hot places she could earn her soul, which brings us to. . .

6. Marsters, James Does this really need an explanation? And yay! In September I get to see him, plus meet a bunch of you. I'm so excited.

7. Morticia Adams When I was in high school people used to call me Wednesday because well. . . I just look a lot like Wednesday, and I was a bit of a goth. I still am really. Anyway, the other day at the bar one of the regulars started calling me Morticia. She thought it was pretty neat when I told her people used to call me Wednesday. Guess I've grown up.

8. Miller, Arthur My favorite playwright. I've seen some of the worst productions of the Crucible you can imagine, but I'm still crying at the end. The last line of the play? Elizabeth Proctor: "He's got his goodness now, God forbid I should take it from him." Which probably doesn't mean much if you don't know the play or who John Proctor is, or what he's been through (and I wouldn't want to spoil if for you) but it makes me teary-eyed just typing it. Seriously, if you've never seen it, go rent the movie version. It's not identical to the play (in fact I don't think that line is in it) but Arthur Miller wrote the screen play and it's wonderful.

9. Minerva Okay, so I prefer the greek version of this goddess, Athena. The goddess of War and Wisdom. I'm a bit of a neo-pagan (although my religion is a bit more complex than that sort of easy label) and Athena has always resonated with me. Especially the time in my life when I was in the Navy.

10. Miriam The sister of Moses and Aaron, and she was called a prophet before either of them were. She lead the Israelites in song right after the Red Sea closed on the Egyptians. We used to always sing that song at Easter mass and it was always one of those incredible religious moments for me. I was raised Catholic and I still have deep Catholic roots. Much of Miriam's story has been lost, but she's always appealed to me. I don't know enough Hebrew to tell you the exact meaning of her name, but it has to do with water, and there's a tiny little passage in the Bible about how after she died their was a drought. She's another religious female figure that resonates with me, although I don't know that I could explain how exactly.
