I was just checking my e-mail and I just got cast in a short film without even auditioning. Okay, so there's no pay involved (although they do feed you) but hey who cares. And yes it's just a tiny role but I didn't have to audition! Auditioning is pure hell, and it's the main reason I haven't put much serious effort into pursing an acting career. Besides the film is going to be used by several non-profits that work with the homeless. And I get credit, which is important. Honestly the best part of the whole thing is someone picked me. After being turned down for so many jobs as a waitress because I don't have two to three years experience (silly me I spent the last two years finishing my degree instead of waiting tables) it's just great to be chosen for something. Okay, I'm done squeeing now. I just had to tell someone and it's too late to call my parents.

Date: 2005-12-02 09:46 pm (UTC)I had (and have) NO desire to act but my mother did tons of commercials, music videos and extra parts. My sister did lots of theater as a lead, extra film work and commercial/print work. She also graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I watched them deal with the audition process and respect the aversion you speak of.
The good side is that there are casting people (and your agent) that sure have faith in you. If it's your dream, go for it!
Go you!!
