You know how I just posted a rambling post about nothing? Well this is an angry venty post because someone from Nevada ruined my evening. So I finished up the last post cause I got out of rehearsal early. Which was great because I needed to go grocery shopping. I haven't gone in two weeks because first my car was getting fixed from the accident, and then I was in Seattle. Anyway, I come back home after grocery shopping and guess what, there's a big SUV parked in my parking space.

Now here's the thing, all the parking spaces for my building are assigned, and on the east side of the building where I park there's no reason to park there unless you are coming to my building. On the west side (which is a bit away cause it's a long thin building) there is however parking that's free from 6pm-8am (I know this because a. the landlord told me first thing when I moved into the building, and b. because this is not the first time someone has parked in my space and I've had to find another place to park).

So I'm having them towed, cause guess what, there's a big sign on the side of the building that says that all the spaces are assigned and that if you park in someone else's space you risk getting towed at your own expense, and there's a phone number to call to get someone towed.

Yes I'm ruining someone's night, but you know what, they ruined mine, and this is the third time this has happened to me. The fact that they have out of state plates and school is about to start at the university, also makes me suspect that they aren't a visitor but just moved into the building. Of course they could be a visitor, but if they were only there a few hours couldn't they parking in the free spaces on the other side? And if they plan to be their overnight than I really need them towed because I usually ride my bike to work, and I go to work at 8am tomorrow, so either I have to drive to work to keep from being illegally parked, or hope they are gone so I can repark my car. The only reason I drove today was because I had to go grocery shopping (which also meant I had to carry all my groceries half a block instead of a few feet.)

So yeah, I'm really ruining someone's day, cause I imagine having your car towed is a bitch, because first of all, you wonder "Where the hell is my car" and then you have to get it out of the lot and pay for the towing and all that sort of stuff but you know what, if I park anywhere else I risk the same thing happening to my car. And all I wanted to do when I got home was crawl into bed. Now I have to wait for the tow truck so I can sign the paper work, plus run back to my car so I car repark it.

I do kind of worry about them doing something to my car when they find it there instead of theirs, on the other hand both the front and back of my car are kind of scrunched from my accident as you can see.

so I'm really not that worried. I do feel mean and bitchy about the whole thing, but this keeps happening to me and damn it, I need a place to park. And I want to go to bed, but can't until the tow truck comes.

ETA: So it took the tow truck an hour to arrive and another 20 minutes or so to actually get the car towed. So since it'll be almost 11 by the time I get to bed, I no longer have any guilt. The car was still there and this person was obviously not going to move their car tonight.<\b>

You were perfectly within your rights to call for the tow. You've certainly taken me back to the days when jockeying for parking was a huge concern. I never lived in a place that had assigned parking and it was always a crapshoot as to whether or not I'd have a spot at all when coming home. Having assigned parking is supposed to relieve you of that stress.

I hope you got a good night's sleep after all that!

Most of the time it's nice to know where I'm going to park. I think there's something about where my spot is located that makes people think they can park there. I'm not sure why though, cause it has a resevered sign.

There are rules and if you don't play by them, you have to pay...

I am sure your space is included in your rent so you have every right to use that space. And no one else has that right. Some people are jerks. Sorry your evening was ruined.

That's true. I guess they took a gamble and lost. And you're probably right. I'm sure the space is included in the rent somewhere. Everything is somewhere or other.

It would be different if the parking spaces wouldn't belong especially to the tenants; I don't think you have to worry about it. It's your right.

Yeah, I think they may thing I worry about is people loosing their temper. Not that I think that happens often or anything, but in this case I'm betting the person was a college student, so they may be on their own for the first time and young and stupid.
