So I've been so excited all day because I get a big episode of two of my favorite shows. Of course most people on my flist will be happy about Torchwood because we finally get JM back.
I have to say, I went into this episode with some trepidation. Mostly the end of the last episode which I thought was great, had me worried about Captain John. Actually I kind of liked the "I love you so much and I'm pschyo jealous so I'm going to kill everything else in your life." But as the episode started it didn't quite track somehow, especially with John shot Jack like a hundred times. But wait, it's okay because it wasn't supposed to track. I liked the idea of it really being Jack's brother who's out to destroy his life, and Grey's motivations made more sense, if only they'd found an actor who could act his way out of a wet paper bag.
I have to say, blowing up Cardiff seemed rather pointless to me, because Jack really never got to see it. Maybe I've just be desensitized to TV explosions, cause I kept trying to tell myself that for the characters this should be a 9-11 like event. I just couldn't quite get there. I guess there was some point, because without the explosions there would have been no nuclear threat, but even that didn't seem to have much to do with anything.
I did love Tosh and Owen's deaths however, at least as much as you can love the deaths of character's you love. Tosh especially had a great death, in that she was calming down Owen, even while she knew she was probably dying herself. Her death especially got me, but then I've never been that big on Owen (not that I dislike him, I'm just kind of indifferent.)
Oh and I loved Gwen's moment of leadership. My first thought was finally, why haven't we seen more of this side of her since the first episode of the season. But then I realized actually this is better. She's kind of like me. I don't want to be in charge, I'm happy being a sheep, but when things get chaotic I tend to step in and try and get people moving.
Anyway I really loved the episode. Except for the terrible acting by Grey, it was terrific.
And then I got to watch I have to say, I was much more disappointed by this episode. Maybe it was because I just rewatched the beginning of seasons 3 a few night ago, and that was simply amazing.
So during the break I had become comfortable with the notion that Kara is a cylon. It made a lot of things make sense. But after this episode I'm thinking maybe not so much. Of course she still could be, but it's looking doubtful. And I liked this theory, and like I said, for almost a year now I was convinced that's the way it was, so I'm having a hard time switching gears.
I did love the scenes with the 'hidden' cylons, and how Ander's evidently saved the whole fleet. Which is really creepy if you think about it, because it means the final five have some sort of even bigger plan than the other cylons, and they programmed the other cylons so they wouldn't get in the way.
But the thing that really bugged me about this episode was the Baltar story line. I was just bored by it. By the end of the episode it actually turned into something good, but I had to endure lots of horny crazy ladies in the mean time. I guess in the end it wasn't bad it just didn't live up to my expectations for the show.
Still I'm looking forward to the next episode.
