Battelstar Galactica is killing me.
Just finished watching tonight's episode of BSG and well. . .
I'm just not sure how I feel about the fact that they killed Starbuck. I was half hoping that in this episode we'd find out that she wasn't really dead, although I was pretty sure she was. But then maybe she isnt'. . . I think the thing bothering me about her death most of all is how pointless it was. If she really is dead she either went crazy or fell victim to some cylon brainwashing that happened during the occupation. Either way it seems like and odd way for such a pivotal character to go. Of course that makes it more realistic. Most deaths have no rhyme or reason to them.
But this is TV.
So here's my theory. I think Starbuck is the cylone that #3 was apologizing to when she saw the final five. One of the things that has driven me nuts about that was trying to figure out who #3 would have reason to apologize to. Maybe she was apologizing for Starbuck's captivity.
And if you think about the things that we've recently learned about Starbuck's childhood, it would make sense that she was a cylon. Her whole identity before she went to the academy is about her mother. Just one person. And since that one person was abusive and she had a bad relationship with her, she wouldn't have introduced anyone to this mother (who never really existed). In fact her mother 'died' right after Starbuck became a pilot, so she couldn't have introduced her to anyone if she wanted to.
It would also explain how she was so easily able to figure out how to pilot a cylon raider in season 1. Of course on the other hand the cylons did cut her open to remove some of her eggs, but obviously cylons don't know how to detect other cylons either, and cylon females do have eggs cause Sharon had a baby.
So there's my theory, Starbuck isn't really dead, she's just been downloaded somewhere. Or maybe it's all just wishful thinking.
