Big important question about all human AUs

So I have a question. A big important question whose answer I really want, mostly to reassure me about something a planning to do in a fic. I just wonder if it would really bother people or not, so I'd really really really like some input.

[Poll #1244968]

That was tough to answer. I chose No, since he's green there's no more reason to make him white.

When I have read Lorne him HAUs I picture him as the actor who portrayed him. It's not his color so much as what comes out of his mouth. It's hard to get the Lorne!speak authentic and not saccharine.

Yeah, it'd definitely hard to get Lornespeak right. Of course for some reason I think it's harder to get the voice of most of the Angel characters down. In any case you're right, his speech is somewhat distinctive. It makes perfect sense to picture the actor out of his make up in an all human AU, but I've always had trouble doing that (even though I met him once at a convention) perhaps because they changed his chin and nose so much.

Now I'm gonna be imagining Human!Lorne being green :P

lol sorry ;) I've never managed to picture him as anything other than green. Not sure why.

Green makeup or not you can tell that the actor that played Lauren was white. So it would be strange to me to read him as black. It would be if you made your AU Charles Gunn white or made Wesley Indian.

I've chosen "No, even in human AUs I always really picture Lorne as being green" because that it what always happens with me but vicki_bmore is right: the facial structure of the actor makes it pretty obvious that he is white.

Hmm I find the facial structure thing interesting because they actually changed his nose and chin a lot. That's one of the reasons I always picture him green in human AUs, because to me the actor looks so totally different because his face is so different to me.

You summed my response in a nutshell. Even though the character of Loren (Demon) desplays "Soul", it is obvious he is white.

lol I never really thought of it that way.

Well, being a child of the "70's" helps.

I agree that you can tell the actor is white (which is kind of sad really). I think it's a little different than making Gunn white or Wesley Indian, because for both of them the culture they came from influences their character a great deal. Of course Lorne's background influences him too, but since in a human AU there is no Pilea, it seems different to me. I totally understand what you are saying though. If the idea seemed perfectly natural to me I wouldn't have bothered having a poll.

I'd probably picture him looking like the actor does IRL. But in the back of my mind, he'd STILL be green LOL.

[identity profile] icemink.livejournal.com 2008-08-26 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe, I understand. Honestly, although I think I picture him being green in human AUs, sometimes I think I don't. I can't really say for sure, I think my mind blinks back and forth, like something reminds me they are all human so I try and force it, but then my mind reverts back.

I picture human Lorne as looking like Andy Hallet. Maybe because I've seen Chance so I'm pretty familiar with how he looks I don't think I could picture him any other way.
