Chapter 1: )

Until this last week, I haven't had a lot words, and my recent silence on LJ hasn’t been one of my normal ones. You see, a month ago Andre, my 11 week old nephew died in his sleep. As you can imagine it’s been a really rough time for may family, although we’re doing pretty good now.

But ever since it happened I really felt like I needed to sit down and write. . . something, anything. I just wasn’t able to. For weeks my brain has been stuck in loops that keep circling back to him and Miranda his mother. (He was technically my great nephew. Miranda my nice is only eight years younger than me, and is kind of like my kid sister).

But like I said I haven’t really been able to write anything. I knew right away that it was going to be a while till I’d be able to work on The Guardian again. Right now a story which has the loss of it’s child at the center of the plot is too ghoulish for me to work on, as much as I love the story and want to finish it.

But I also found that I couldn’t work on any of my other stories, or even start something new. That was until a week ago when my mom and I went to se Star Trek. So yes, I loved the movie, and from the moment I walked out of the theatre my head was spinning with fanish glee. I’ve been completely overtaken with Spock/Uhura love and I’ve got two stories I’m working on, and I hope to post the first chapter of one of them in a little bit.

I’m not sure where I stand with my Buffyverse stories right now. I just can’t seem to connect to them right now. I really do want to return to them. Right now I need to go where my muse leads me, and write what comes easy.

So yeah, I just did the dreamwidth thing, cause all the cool kids are doing it. So I'm also icemink at dreamwidth if you want to add me there. However, the thing that makes me thing I'll actually use it, is that I can post here and LJ at the same time, so if you're seeing this on LJ we're still friended.

Okay, so I saw the new Star Trek on Sunday, and yes I loved it, and am especially in love with Spock/Uhura. So, since I can’t just watch the movie over and over again yet at home, I went searching and found the original series is on fancast.com. I’m currently watching “The Enemy Within” and I can’t helped but be amazed at the episode. It’s the one where there’s a transporter accident and a good and an evil Kirk are created. Among his many attacks on various crew members evil!Kirk he tries to rape the pretty blond yeoman. And the best part, after she gets away, she admits the attack to Bones, Spock, and good!Kirk (although at this point she doesn’t know there is more than one Kirk). As she’s telling them what happened, she keeps excusing Kirk on the basis that he’s the Captain, and even says she doesn’t want to get him in trouble. . . for attempted rape.

So yeah, Star Trek TOS wins big points for showing a black woman as a ranking officer, but still definitely looses some woman’s rights points. Still, I'm enjoying re-watching the old series.

Title: The Guardian
Pairing: Spike/Angel and flashbacks to Angel/Darla
Rating: NC-17 (please read the warnings)
Summary: All human AU. It was eight years ago that Liam promised to protect Darla and be her angel. It's a promise he's done his best to keep, even if these days she can barely stand to be around him. Then one night he finds a young prostitute, William, getting beat up in an alley. But will helping William destroy the delicate balance of Angel's life, or will it be William who saves Angel from his own dark past?
Disclaimer: The characters belong to all sorts of other people like Joss, ME, and Fox. I just do strange things to them for free.

So until recently I kind of always held to the idea to be a really good writer you should “write what you know.” I guess I always figured if I wrote a novel to be published it would be about actors or something, or maybe take place in my home town.

Why I thought this I don’t know, )

So I’ve kind of lost my point, but I was wondering what other people think of the idea of “Writing what you know”. Cause it seems to me, at least in fiction, that it’s not the best idea, except going on the theory that you need to know people, and how they behave.

Chapter 19 )

So I have all sorts of possible big life changes on the horizon. Still waiting to hear back from graduate school to see if I got in. And if I didn't I'll probably still go back to take more undergraduate classes, so I'll have a better chance of getting in next year. I'm probably going to move to a different place this summer, so I can get cheaper rent.

However the thing that really might change my life forever starts today. See last week I went to the doctor because my wrists have been hurting me. He diagnosed me with carpel tunnel (not a surprise) gave me some advice, told me what I should do next etc. etc. The thing is he called me up the next morning. He was looking over the medical history form I had filled out and noticed I have a condition called alopesia areota. Long story short, I loose my hair. It's actually just started to grow back, but basically I'm bald. The interesting thing is that it's started to grow back absolutely white, which considering my hair was almost black before, will be an interesting change. Anyway, he told me there have been some recent studies showing that alopesia may in fact be a symptom of another condition called celiac. It's an allergy to gluten, which is found in wheat, rye, and barley.

So this morning I'm going in for a blood test, which depending on the results may be followed up by a stomach biopsy. If I do have it, I'll need to go on a gluten free diet, because if I don't I'm at high risk for intestinal cancer. On the bright side my hair will grow back, which is a huge life change in and of itself. Having normal hair like any other girl, would be, well, new. I've been losing my hair in patches since the 4th grade. On the other hand, I'll never get to order pizza again, or eat lots of other foods that I love. In fact, I'll probably have to learn to cook, which would be a rather radical life change in and of itself. Yes I'm one of those people.

So there is much nervousness today, even though I doubt I'll know anything for a while. Which is why I'm also about to post an unbetad chapter to take my mind off stuff.

So I was working on the next chapter of Cocoon Crash I realized that I don't have a banner for it. I wanted to put one together, but I need a picture to start off with. What I need is a picture of James with a guitar, and I was wondering if anyone had any convention photos that they'd be willing to let me use.
icemink: (Default)
Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback on the beginnings of my new website. I've decided that since I have so much stuff to upload to it, the way I'm going to do it is to post at least one chapter of an old story a day. I'll probably do more than one as I have more new chapters of my current WIP cause I'll want to catch them up, but anyway this way I'll constantly be moving forward with the web site. So I decided to start with Nothing to Fear. . . because I don't really have it bookmarked in my memories or anything like that.

Now sadly I have to go to an 8a.m. meeting at work on my off day :(

Oh right, the website is here
icemink: (Default)
So I'm trying to redo my webpage. The one I have I haven't touched in years, and the program I made it on never worked all the great before, and doesn't really work at all now. So I started from scratch and began putting together a brand new website. Actually I started this months ago, and then abandoned it, because it was taking so long. But I learned a few short cuts from a friend at work, and I actually think I can get more of it up faster. But before I invest too much time in it, I'd like to know what people think.

So please check out http://web.me.com/icemink and let me know.

So yeah, I actually posted something fic wise. Recently between working and acting I just haven’t had any time. Which reminds me that I want to post some of the cool theatre pictures I have from this last winter. One costume especially I loved because I could so see Darla wearing it. But I digress.

I’m thinking I need to take time off from theatre, because even though theatre is great in so many ways, I’m not terribly happy right now. It isn’t anything specific, and I’m not depressed, I just wish I was doing more with my life, but I’m so tired from an already busy life, that I do nothing.

Anyway, on a more fanish topic. I watched Dollhouse on Saturday. And can I just say I love my mom because she called me up early on Friday and told me I had to come over and make sure the TiVO was set up to record Dollhouse. I don’t think she trusted my dad, who liked Firefly but can’t stand Buffy, to record it on the basis that it was Joss.

It’s been quite a while so here’s a brief recap: Previously. . .  )

Chapter 15 )
icemink: (Default)
So I've decided Facebook may actually not be all evil, or useless. There's a huge fire a few miles north of where I live in Colorado. As I was listening to the coverage I realized that the parents of my best friend growing up live very near the fire. I'd kind of lost touch with her though, except that we'd ended up friending each other on Facebook a while back. I actually used it to e-mail her and ask her about her parents. It's funny cause I thought that maybe it would be inappropriate, I guess since she's someone I've known all my life it felt odd talking to her through Facebook about something so important. But she e-mailed me right back that they were okay, although they'd been evacuated, but they didn't think there house was in too much danger. Which is all to the good. So now I'm not so worried. So yay for Facebook.

First and most importantly, thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday last week. Sorry I didn't thank you sooner, things have been a little crazy. Also I wish everyone had a happy holiday.

Hopefully once January 15th rolls around I'll be able to get back to writing and get back to January. Why January 15th you ask? Well I'm applying to graduate school again, and that's the day the application is due. It's been a huge stressful project that has eaten up my free time, and made me really lazy in the free time I have. But once I've got everything submitted, there will be nothing to do but wait around until I hear from the school, and that will be several months.
